Everything You Need to Know

How does Sustee work?

Sustee measures moisture at root level and changes colour to indicate when it's time to water. Blue means there is still sufficient moisture in the soil. White means it's time to water your plant.

What plants can I use Sustee with?

Sustee works with most indoor plants, tropical plants, flowering plants and outdoor potted plants including Monstera, Peace Lily, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Philodendron, Pothos, Rubber Plants, Orchids and many more.

What size Sustee do I need?

Choose your Sustee based on pot size:

  • Small: pots up to 12 cm
  • Medium: pots 12-18 cm
  • Large: pots 18-25 cm

How long does a Sustee last?

A Sustee moisture meter core typically lasts 6 to 12 months with regular use. The Sustee stick is reusable, but the inner cotton core is 100% natural and breaks down over time.

Does Sustee work in all potting mixes?

Yes. Sustee works well in most potting mixes, soil blends, bark mixes, coco peat, coco coir, akadama and sphagnum moss.

Sustee does not work in:

  • Pure hydroponic systems (water only)
  • Pure LECA
  • Pure perlite or pumice
  • Pure sand

If you're using a chunky aroid mix or a mix containing a high percentage of LECA, perlite or bark, ensure the Sustee wick is surrounded by some moisture-retentive material such as potting mix or coco coir so it can accurately detect moisture.

Tip: Sustee works best when inserted into the main root zone where moisture is retained the longest.

Do I need batteries or an app?

No. Sustee requires no batteries, charging, electronics or apps. Simply insert it into the soil and monitor the colour indicator.

Can I use Sustee outdoors?

Yes, Sustee can be used in outdoor potted plants. Performance may vary in extreme weather conditions.

Why is Sustee better than a moisture meter?

Unlike traditional moisture meters that need to be inserted each time you check your soil, Sustee stays in the pot and continuously indicates when your plant needs water.
